A very exciting Jamboree this year at Williamwood Golf Club with the outcome being decided on a count back after 3 great days of competitive golf.
Our Ayrshire team performed so well given that it was quite a new group of players after 4 changes from the team that went to Stathaven last year.
On day one we played D&A and were unlucky to only get one point out of 3 from the morning foursomes. The singles went our way by 3.5 to 2.5 so a halved match overall. Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire also halved their match so it was all to play for on day 2.
Day 2 and our opponents were last years winners Lanarkshire. It was a disappointing start with a whitewash for Lanarkshire in the foursomes but the girls rallied to to win 3 points out of 6 in the afternoon singles. A loss on the day of 6 points to 3. Renfrewshire beat D&A by 6.5 points to 2.5 points.
The final day saw us take on our hosts Renfrewshire. So many possibilities for the overall outcome with all 4 counties still in with a chance of winning. The girls got off to a fantastic start taking the foursomes by 2.5 to 0.5. Renfrewshire came out strongly in the afternoon and took the singles by 4.5 to 1.5 meaning a win for them by 5 points to 4. It did look at one point that we may have edged the match and 3 of the games went to the 18th but it wasn't to be.
Lanarkshire also won their match against D&A by 5 points to 4 which left them and Renfrewshire with the same number of points for the 3 days. It then went to a count back of games won with Renfrewshire winning with 16 compared to Lanarkshires 15.5. Could hardly have been closer. Ayrshire and D&A also finished on the same number of points but finished third on a countback.
Conditions at Williamwood were very difficult for all the players given the intense heat - we even had a lightning scare on Monday with the players having to be called off the course. Therefore a big thank you has to go to all our trolley pullers who gave up their time to come and help us out.
Thank you to our hosts for all their efforts and endless supply of water!
Congratulations to Donna and her Renfrewshire team and good luck to them at the Scottish Finals at Hilton Park in September.
